“It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going.”
Hebrews 11:8 NLT

Title - “Abraham’s Life of Faith”

Underlines:
“In the Old Testament, a person’s relationship with God was seen by the degree of separation in that person’s life.”

These days, with regard to unbelievers, we have “…to be separated mentally and morally from their viewpoints.

This is basically a whole paragraph but I loved everything it said -
“Living a life of faith means never knowing where you are being led. But it does mean loving and knowing the One who is leading. It is literally a life of faith, not of understanding and reason - a life of knowing Him who calls us to go. Faith is rooted in the knowledge of a Person, and one of the biggest traps we fall into is belief that if we have faith, God will surely lead us to success in the world.”

“A life of faith is not a life of one glorious mountaintop experience after another, like soaring on eagles’ wings, but is a life of day-in and day-out consistency”

“Abraham is not a type or an example of the holiness of sanctification, but a type of the life of faith - a faith, tested and true, built on the true God.”

I wrote no notes in the margins. I put a bunch of stats around the paragraph I quoted. Trying to understand how to have faith, keep the faith, do God’s will is not the point. The point is to love God. Let Him lead you and trusting in Him even though you may not know where you are going.

It takes effort on our part to be consistent in our faith. Meaning to be consistent in our reliance on Him. Our communication with Him. Our communion with Him in scripture.

The more you worry and control, you are closing yourself off from Him. It is hard to be obedient when you are trying to dictate the terms or when you are only worried about yourself. Also hard to have faith apparently.
