OC January 7th

“Jesus replied, ‘Have I been with you all this time Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show Him to you?’” John 14:9 NLT

Philip had asked Jesus to show them God, the Father and then he would have been satisfied. This is how Jesus replies. From what Chambers talks about in the devotional, it speaks more to Jesus encouraging them to draw nearer to Him, not rebuking them. He wants close intimacy with us. He calls us friends.

Some quotes from the devotional:

“True friendship is rare on earth. It means identifying with someone in thought, heart, and spirit. The whole experience of life is designed to enable us to enter into this closest relationship with Jesus Christ.”

“The bearing of fruit is always shown in Scripture to be the visible result of an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.”

I think about some close friends that I have. Where we do identify in thought, heart, and spirit. To think and know that Jesus wants that same kind of closeness is humbling. Intimacy with Jesus will bear fruit of the spirit, humble us, and bring a “strong, calm balance”.
