“Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,” Romans‬ ‭1:1‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Set apart. Separated.

Paul’s focus was to bring the Good News of redemption to all peoples. “The one all-important thing is that the gospel of God be recognized as the abiding reality.”

Enduring, everlasting, unchanging.

“Reality is not human goodness, or holiness, or heaven, or hell - it is redemption.”

Our connection and oneness with God will bring about sanctification and holiness but we need to share the gospel and proclaim the reality of redemption. Our holiness is a result of redemption - not our own human goodness.

“Paul was not conscious of himself. He was recklessly abandoned, totally surrendered, and separated by God for one purpose - to proclaim the gospel of God (see Romans 9:3).”

We are redeemed first. Then we are set apart. Made holy. Paul spread this good news with reckless abandon. He cared more about what God thought than what others thought.
