A great devotional for children (and parents)

Image
If you are in search of a devotional and have kids that are curious about science, nature etc, this is a good one. We will read 2 to 4 a night and I get just as much out of it as the kids do. It is called "Indescribable" by Louie Giglio. He relates science to scripture.  One we read tonight is about fireflies and how and why they light up. That there are over 2000 species and have different colors and different flashing patterns. It helps them know who they belong to and for the guys to attract the girls... He then relates it to the light inside us. How believers need to let it shine so that others may see His light so that we can share our faith and the good news that Jesus brought the world.  I have talked a lot with family, friends, the guys I do bible study with - don't complicate your faith. His message is not complicated and caring for, and loving others enough to share your faith shouldn't be either.  This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine! For G...

Discipleship

“To play it safe is the most risky decision we could make. To risk is the safest decision we can make with God. No matter the short-term implications, we must obey God with reckless abandon.” Ed Stetzer I copied this quote onto the notes of my phone after reading it. Dr. Jim Denison quoted this on his site the Denison Forum. He was the pastor at Park Cities Baptist while I attended and where my parents still attend. He has a great daily article about world news and how it relates to Christians and how we can respond and interpret. Here is a link to that post . The next note down on my phone has the title: Memorize. It is the following scripture I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.  Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.  And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how h...

Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi

Image
The Methodist Church coordinates a 3 day retreat called Walk to Emmaus. It is 3 days full of great lessons and interaction to help build church leaders and to have Jesus revealed more clearly and fully to you. Like the disciples on the road to Emmaus.  One of the orders of worship was to recite the Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi. It is printed in the worship booklet that you use thought the weekend. There are many wonderful things about the Walk that I wish all could experience. If you want to know more or to be sponsored to go on a walk, feel free to reach out.  The Prayer: "Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace; where there is hatred, let me show love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood, as to understand; to be loved, as to love; for it is in giving that ...

"Starting Over"

"This might not be an easy time, there's rivers to cross and hills to climb. Some days we might fall apart, and some nights might feel cold and dark. When nobody wins, afraid of losing, and the hard roads are the one's we're choosing. Some day we'll look back and smile, and know it was worth every mile. It dont matter to me, wherever we are is where I want to be." Whitney sent me this song to listen to. "Starting Over" by Chris Stapleton.  The kids had just started school back after the 6 month Corona Virus spring break. That's another post. It was a long week and the kids and ourselves were adjusting to the normal school routine. Behaviors and patience levels were not great by any of us. You know, just one of those weeks. So I listen to the whole song ( check it out ) and find myself in tears, for a couple reasons.  First, was that Whit and I will talk about how quiet our home will be one day. How these days with 4 young kids that will grow into...

Sunsets and Football

In the beginning, God created thea heavens and the earth. And God said, "Let there be light," and there was lig, ht. And God saw that the light was goods. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. Genesis 1:1‭, ‬3‭-‬5 ESV Blessed evening in our hometown. Believing that the Holy Trinity created the universe and everything in it is not  the popular belief. But I believe it. As a believer, when I see something like that sunset, and the Holy Spirit stirs in my heart - I know He is with me. We can all be moved by these sites, but it is different for me and believers. The Creator of that vista, lives in me and I am connected with it on a level that cannot be matched.

Grocery Bagger

We are starting a new study through our men's ministry, Band of Brothers, at Christ Chapel Bible Church. We will work through the Gospel of John, and focus on the divine nature of Jesus Christ. Amongst other things, the intro lesson talked about how many Christians do not believe that Jesus is God. Just that He was a good teacher, a great example to follow. The error in that thinking is another post, but I want to share a story about identifying as a Christian. So, I have been getting back into the Word, and I am also really working on my prayer life. Trying to make my communication with God more consistent, and more focused on others and how He can use me. So in working on being bolder in my faith, I have prayed for God to make me more aware of opportunities to share my faith, to encourage someone, to just ask someone how I can pray for them. God answered by pointing me to a fellow believer and brother in Christ.   I went by Brookshire's to pick up a few groceries. I pushed m...
