OC April 29
“Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is.” 1 John 3:2 NLT
Title - “Gracious Uncertainty”
Underlines:
“Certainty is the mark of the common sense life – gracious uncertainty is the mark of the spiritual life.”
“If our certainty is only in our beliefs, we develop a sense of self righteousness, become overly critical, and are limited by the view that our beliefs are complete and settled. But when we have the right relationship with God, life is full of spontaneous, joyful, uncertainty, and expectancy.”
Notes:
Eager expectation in what God will reveal.
If we are so certain in our beliefs, but are not submitting to God, then our beliefs are all we are certain of. We become self-righteous, because we are looking at our own value and worth as a bonus for God. The true believer knows that we can add nothing to God. We don’t make Him better by our beliefs and actions. . . We are lucky enough to be called his sons and daughters.
Being abandoned to God is admitting that we do not know what will come. That His plans and ways are good and right for us no matter the circumstance. That is the “nature of the spiritual life, that we are certain in our uncertainty.” So we must live with great expectation about what He will do, and reveal in our lives. How exciting, nerve-wracking and liberating to just let go, and let God.
