OC January 26th
“‘And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
So don’t worry about these little things, saying ‘what will we eat, what will we drink, what will we wear.’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your Heavenly Father already knows all your needs.’” Matthew 6:30-32 NLT
The first couple of sentences in the devotional are something I seem to always be circling back to. The simplicity of the Gospel, and how much we try to complicate it:
“A simple statement of Jesus is always a puzzle to us because we will not be simple. How can we maintain the simplicity of Jesus so that we may understand Him? By receiving His Spirit, recognizing and relying on Him, and obeying Him as He brings us the truth of His Word, life will become amazingly simple.”
Chambers goes on to talk about how we get in our own way, not experiencing His true presence, “…because we are not obeying the life God has given us and have cluttered our minds with confusing thoughts and worries.” Never so true, especially this day and age with so many things and different media to grab out attention. We think we have made life easier, simpler, with all these efficiencies in technology and communication - but it’s the opposite.
Chambers says that we must continually separate ourselves and look to God every day of our lives.
